Kozarnika Cave, Belogradchik

The world’s oldest numerical record dating back at least 1.2 million years was found here. The cave is small, but it is one of the most important archaeological sites on the Old continent. Traces of human presence from 1.4 million years ago have been found in it. These are the earliest traces of human presence in Europe and show that the settlement of the European continent probably began on the Balkans.
