Chiprovtsi Monastery “Saint Ivan Rilski”

The monastery was built by Catholic monks in the 10th century and for the period of its existence it has been destroyed and rebuilt many times. It is associated with a very interesting legend. According to it, after the failure of Constantine and Fruzhin’s uprising, Tsar Ivan Sratsimir’s son found refuge in the Chiprovtsi Monastery, where he spent the last years of his life. During this time, the monks brought him water from a nearby spring, which is now called Tsarev Kladenets.
